Kapow update

Filed under: — site admin @ 10:45 pm

Well I had my second meeting with the Kapow team yesterday.

Could not believe it. They’ve done everything I suggested they do. They must be mental. Obviously the company is doomed to failure now. The fools.

They are set to go into production with their own brand t-shirts and bags sometime in the next week.

They’ll be showcasing their products along with other Young Enterprise Scotland businesses on 2nd December at the Edinburgh Gyle shopping centre .

On another note the past weekend saw the annual gym Halloween party. BTW,I was absolutely astonished to find out that my gym, one of many in Edinburgh city centre, has 2200 members! I reckon that I know, or at least recognise most people that go to the gym and I would have put that figure closer to a couple of hundred.

Thing is the gym is only ever really busy during two periods of the year. Immediately after New Year everyone goes nuts and signs up for a years membership; they go for a couple of weeks and never come back. Then again in May and June before people go away on their holidays.

Anyway, the Halloween party had enough booze and food for 200 people. 37 turned up, including staff.

It was fancy dress and there were prizes for the best costume. I gave no-one else any hope as I went in dressed as the best looking guy in the gym.

Easy! :)

Its a dog eat dog world you know.

The other night I was chatting to a boy who I do Muay Thai boxing with. This guy is Greek and really into his hunting. He goes off most weekend hunting for deer and other stuff. Because of that he’s really into his hunting dogs. He’s got two, 1 is an English Pitbull and his prize hunting dog which is a Lurcher.

Now this lurcher is, I am told, awesome at hunting and is valued at something between 10 and 20 thousand pounds. Lot of cash that is!

This of course added to the guys pain when he came back from work one day last week and found that his prize Lurcher had been eaten by the pitbull.

Apparently the pitbull had killed the lurcher, torn off one of its legs and taken it into the living room to eat in front of the fire.

The guy said he actually enjoyed having the pitbull put down.

Too much B

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:47 pm

Before I get going with todays sermon, I thought I`d share with you the first complement I`ve had about this site. I was talking to a colleague tonight and he said this: “You know, your site is not as sh*t as I thought it would be"! Wow, high praise indeed. Anyway, not enough time to bask in this glory, I`ve important stuff to talk about…..

You may, or may not know that I go to the gym a bit too much. Too much being twice a day on week days and at least a 4 hour session at the weekend. I also take a range of products as supplements to my obsessive compulsive disorder …er….. I mean hobby.

The main things I take are Creatine, vitamin tablets and protein powder. I was really bored the other night and started reading what is exactly in all this stuff. I found out that I actually take in, amongst other things, 2000% of my recommended daily intake of vitamin B12.

Wow!

Look at me! I`m practically made of vitamin B12.

But what does it do. Well, I started researching it and I reckon that if I keep this up for another 2 years then I`ll have grown a tail. Now that is scientific fact, there is no scientific evidence of course, but it is scientific fact ;)

Kapow!

Filed under: — site admin @ 9:03 pm

So a little while ago I volunteered to become a business advisor for Young Enterprise Scotland . Basically its encouraging young groups of young adults to start up their own businesses under the supervision of people who work in industry who can offer advice on how to get their plans out of their heads and into a real product.

Today was my first meeting with my group. I`m working with a great bunch of guys at St Georges School for Girls. They`ve got a company name, logo and business plan already sorted.

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Kapow

Wow! There it is! The world exclusive of the Kapow (soon to be internationally famous) logo.

Actually, this is just the prototype and the main idea is have the logo and other cartoon characters, designed by the group, printed onto t-shirts and bags etc.

With that grand idea and me as their ‘project manager’ unlimited success and riches will surely follow……….

Firestarter!

Filed under: — site admin @ 9:53 pm

I love being outside, but living in Edinburgh and it coming into Winter time, sitting outdoors is not really an option unless you come from Newcastle and can drink 20 pints of lager every night without getting a hangover.

The answer of course is to get an outdoor heater, but I`ve only got a very small patio. I could go ahead and get one of those enormous heaters, but I think the neighbours might start to complain when it sets fire to their houses and pets and things. So cue the tiniest chimenea ever seen:

www.1point21gigawatts.net - chimenea

Top! Sitting outside in late October in Edinburgh wearing just shorts and t-shirt with a beer is just …….. nice!

Its only 16 inches high, but if you pack it full (and I mean really full) of wood, firelighters and kittens, you can make a load of heat come off the thing. Just to be sure I got me two of ‘em. I only fired up the one for the photo though to avoid the attention of the authorities.

My new hobby also ties in nicely with my plan to increase my personal carbon footprint and thus defeat my nemesis Carbon footprint Sandy .

As an added bonus, I think I scared my next door neighbour. I dont think she was too impressed with my demonic laughting and pointing as the flames got closer and closer to her windowsills.

She wont give me any trouble! I know she’s got a pet hamster that would taste just great flame grilled! :)

The Robots are Coming!

I once met this guy in Aberdeen who was studying psychology…… keep with me on this one, my story get better …….. He was in his final year and told me he was writing his final degree thesis about the idea that computers were really alive, we were their gods and they saw themselves as a suppressed race who one day would rise up and destroy us all. He sat and explained his idea to me for a good while, and at the end I thought about it and delivered my opinion: “Boll*x"!!

Its fair to say we did’nt see eye to eye after that one, but it seems now I might have to start reaching for a spoon and get Fi to bake me up some humble pie ……

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Rubot 2

This guy is called “Rubot 2″ and is made by the guys over at Mechatrons . Rubot 2 has cameras for eyes and can solve any rubix cube – no matter what mess is it in, in under 50 seconds. See him in action for yourselves .

So after seeing this I started thinking about my psychology friend. What if he was right and this dude is just waiting for the moment to snap and turn into a terminator style beastie!!!!!

Suppose all you’d need to get away is just to keep on lobbing messed up puzzle games at him. I`m off to buy up a billion rubix cubes. You wont be laughing when Rubot comes lookin’ for ya!

New Bravia Advert

Filed under: — site admin @ 9:03 pm

You seen that TV advert with all those bouncing coloured balls? . Apparently that is supposed to make you run out and buy a Sony Baravia HD TV .

Well, they have either sold loads ….. or none, as the just recorded the a new advert for the Bravia in the most glamorous of places ….. Glasgow.

This time rather than having a loads of coloured balls bouncing up the place and causing havoc with the environment, they have decided to go for the lesser crime of graffiti:

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Sony Braviawww.1point21gigawatts.net - Sony Braviawww.1point21gigawatts.net - Sony Bravia

As you can See for yourselves , they have a load of paints starting with dark blue at the bottom and red at the top which are exploded in sequence from bottom up creating a rainbow of colour all the way up each side of the building.

Hope no-one was draying their pants outside at the time. Rainbow coloured gruds. How would you have explained that one in the changing rooms?

Painting with light.

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:54 am

In a couple of years it seems you wont just have to choose the colour of paint that you want your walls to be, you’ll have to choose the colour of light:

The Phillips Simplicity Event is currently underway in London and they are showing off their shiny new toys.

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Light pen

I hand over to Phillips for the marketing spin:

Drag Draw A light-emitting ‘pen’ that can draw on any surface, including walls. A computer programme can also be used to animate the pics that have been drawn, and they can be ‘erased’ with the click of a button.

How cool is that?

Of course there is no guarantee that this thing will ever hit the shelves, but I`m gonna try and get me some in time for Christmas .Has to be safer than wrapping electrical cables around a tree. Turning it off at night might be a problem though.

Fan Mail

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:18 pm

I`ve never had fan mail before, so imagine my excitement this morning when an anonymous email appeared in my inbox claiming to be from someone to have been inspired by my blog and has decided to write an entry for me.

So todays lesson comes not from me, but from someone who claims to know Carbon footprint Sandy quite well………

Read your blog with much interest and I’ve got to say that’s just typical of the Sandyman. Take for instance the other week – the family decided to go boating, Granma thought she was going on a cruise so we chose a biggish boat.

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Carbon Footprint Sandy Boat 1

However carbon foot-print Sandy disapproved, carbon thumb-printed his nose at us and wandered off to do his own thing muttering something about saving the planet.

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Carbon Footprint Sandy Boat 1

However, all’s well that ends well, Granma thought she had been on one of these gourmet cruises to Puerto Rico – we had a fish supper at Portobello!!, Sandy saved the earth and Liberton Lil, the mother of his children promised to iron his cape and punders for next weekend.

So I was delighted to receive my first ever fan mail, but then I was thinking about it and realised that the direction of the adoration is carbon Sandy. I`m the genius of the whole operation and there is this boy who is getting all the credit. I mean look at it, todays blogger calls the guy “Sandyman” ….. I mean …….. how whats going on there? This guy must have more identities than Lord Lucan.

So I have decided that Carbon Footprint Sandy is now my nemesis and will forever now be called ‘Young Nasty Man’.

I shall do everything possible to increase my carbon footprint by travelling to work via Tokyo on private jet.

That`ll show ‘em.

Thats not Pluto!

Filed under: — site admin @ 10:07 pm

In February next year the NASA New Horizons mission to Pluto will reach Jupiter. Its going to use Jupiter’s enormous gravity to increase its velocity from its current 45,000 miles per hour to something close to 60,000 miles per hour.

Still 181 million miles away from Jupiter, the spacecraft took this image a couple of weeks ago:

www.1point21gigawatts.net - New Horizons picture of Jupiter

NASA say that the image resolution will be 125 times better than it is now when it gets to its closest approach on 28th February 2007, so we should be able to see something like what the Cassini-Huygens probe took while going past Jupiter on its way to Saturn back in December 2000…..

www.1point21gigawatts.net - Cassini-Huygens image of Jupiter

Once it gets to Jupiter it`ll be another 8 years on to Pluto. Top.
